The final volume of the Darker Shade of Magic trilogy picks up with Kel trapped in White London and Lila racing to save him. Meanwhile, a terrible power is on the loose in Red London, and it's unclear whether it can be stopped. Kate Reading and Michael Kramer return as dual narrators, Reading focusing primarily on Lila, and Kramer on Kel. The dual narration is successful except when one narrator must provide a voice associated with the other. Hearing a different version of a character in the midst of the story is slightly distracting.
